| The Man With Night Sweats
The man with night sweats, sometimes also referred to as Andropause hot flashes, often wonders what is happening to them as they reach mid-life. The level of testosterone produced by the male testes in healthy men after the age of 40 declines, and it's considered a 'normal' process. This development can, however, be the cause of numerous symptoms including night sweats. How much sweating typically depends on how many sweat glands an individual has. Women actually have more sweat glands then men (which might be why more women have trouble with hot flashes), but men's glands tend to be more active. Starting around age 40, a man's body produces less testosterone which is the main male hormone that maintains muscle mass and strength, fat distribution, bone mass, sperm production, sex drive and potency. By the age of 80, overall levels of testosterone in the bloodstream can fall as much as 75% compared to the age of 20. To a degree, this is due to increasing testicular letdown as men get older; as well as partly due to changes in secretions of pituitary hormones that stimulate the testes. To keep it in perspective, the decline in hormone levels in men is extremely slow compared with the steep fall in the female sex hormone estrogen that women undergo during menopause. A good analogy is that at mid-life, women's hormone levels fall off a cliff while a man's hormone levels simply decline at a rate more akin to slowly rolling down a hill. Many men experiencing a decline in testosterone try to cure it with drugs such as levitra, cialias, clomid, nolvadex and viagra for another common Andropause symptoms which is erectile dysfunction. Fortunately, there are treatment options for Andropause available now including herbal alternatives. For men the decrease in testosterone levels happens gradually and the testes continue to function well into the later years allowing even an 80-year-old-man to still be able to father children. Women begin experiencing infertility issues as early as the mid-thirties due to decreasing hormone levels. At some point around mid-life, if testosterone levels fall below a critical threshold, men may develop uncomfortable symptoms such as:
The biggest problem is that most men won't talk about what they are feeling, and often that is because they don't know or understand what is happening to their bodies during this transition. Awareness is the first critical key to helping this change be smoother and making life a lot easier for both men and the women who love them. Sleep Disturbances One of the most disturbing results of night sweats on your health is the inability to sleep comfortably through the night. As blood moves rapidly into the skin it can cause flushing, but much relief can be obtained by cooling down the system. The Bedfan is one of the best products available for keeping your sleeping environment cool all night long. Be aware that night sweats can be brought on by other causes such as: chemotherapy, diabetes, hyperthyroidism, sleep apnea, alcohol, migraines, epilepsy, and certain prescription drugs including anti-depressants. It is always best to check with your doctor first.
