The Story of Jed Diamond and MenAlive

Read Jed Diamond's Blog

When I was five my father was forty-two and going through what I've now come to recognize as the male menopause passage. As a child I didn't know what was happening; only that he became increasingly irritable and withdrawn. On a dark day in November, I was devastated when he took an overdose of sleeping pills and nearly died. Though he recovered physically, our lives were never the same. Ever since then I've been on a crusade to understand male depression.

By the time I hit mid-life I had forgotten about my father's tragedy and was convinced that the stress in my own marriage was caused by my wife's change of life. It wasn't until my marriage was on the rocks that I realized something was seriously wrong. It took me quite awhile to realize that I was suffering from irritable male syndrome. Recognizing that there were millions of unhappy couples experiencing the same problems, I developed a questionnaire to help people discover their level of irritability and what to do about it.

To provide the most up-to-date information on these issues I put out a free e-newsletter and offer many valuable resources to help individuals and couples. I also contribute to a regular blog with stories such as The Jekyll and Hyde Syndrome: Why Mid-Life Men Turn Mean which you can read each Monday at ThirdAge.com. I look forward to hearing from you. Let's continue this journey together.
